“The 2020 Meursault Les Porusots 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with lemon verbena, orange pith, honeysuckle and pressed yellow flowers. Vibrant and concentrated. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a little more extract here perhaps, spicy with touches of stem ginger towards the persistent finish. Superb. This vies with the Meursault-Charmes as “best in (Lafon’s) show. Closure: Diam 30. Drink 2025-2050.”

Here the nose is still showing quite a bit of post-malolactic leesy character that renders it tough to read at present though there is no apparent reason why it wouldn't clean up appropriately. The palate however is entirely clean with superb intensity to the larger-scaled flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the markedly firm acid spine shaping the more compact and slightly more powerful finale. Excellent potential here. - BH

A particular success this year is the 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots, a lovely wine that wafts from the glass with notes of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest, white flowers, blanched almonds and wheat toast. Medium to full-bodied, tangy and chiseled, it's vibrant, concentrated and incisive, concluding with a chalky finish. Assessed at this early juncture, it's as good a Porusots as I can remember tasting chez Lafon. - WA

From 25 and 65 year old vines, two-thirds of the latter. Pale lemon colour. The old vines were picked on the last day because this terroir holds out well. There is always a crystalline structure here, and the bouquet just demonstrates that there will be depth to follow. A couple of banana notes begin to emerge. Then that lovely crystalline structure supporting really quite powerful pure white fruit. Real backbone here. - JM
