Napa Valley lies just above San Francisco and extends 35 miles North. Vines are spread out on the valley floor and the foothills of the Mayacamas and Vaca Mountain ranges on either side of the river. The climate is Mediterranean with a long and generally hot and sunny growing season. The Mayacamas lies on the western side of Napa Valley blocking the heavy winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, however the cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay to the south help protect the vines from the scorching heat of the sun. This is why the southern part of Napa is cooler than the North. To the east is the Vaca Mountains where the western slope above the Valley floor is cooler than the Eastern side. Almost all the land available for viticulture is used and each sub climate and soil impact the style of the wines produced. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most planted red variety. The general trend is for highly concentrated, full-bodied wines with a heavy dose of new oak that are fashioned in the winery, however there are also terroir driven wines that reflect the vineyard, or a combination of the two styles exist. Our tasting focuses on the diversity of California Cabernets from the traditionalist to the Cults. Join us as we delve deep into each wine and region. If you are lover of California Cabernet or just want to educate your palate this will be a delicious and fascinating tasting featuring the greatest estates of California.
