Acker kicked off the Fall auction season on September 8th and 9th live online from Delaware as the wine market maintained historic highs, setting the tone for an exciting season ahead.  Acker sold nearly $7M and set 190 New World Records over the two days, proving once again that collectibles remain impervious to world market volatility. The sale was headlined by the spectacular Magellan Cellar, which included five hundred lots and made up the entirety of the Thursday evening session, followed by a Friday highlighted by Outstanding DRC from an Important Collection featuring a Jeroboam of 1999 DRC La Tache that sold for an impressive $118,275.

Domaine de la Romanee Conti commanded the Top Ten Lots, winning all but one of the leading positions.  The top spot went to the aforementioned Jeroboam of 1999 La Tache selling for $118,275.  Positions two and three went to DRC Romanee Conti, with three bottles of 2009 ringing in at $64,740 and three bottles of 2012 garnering $62,250.  DRC Romanee St. Vivant took the fourth and fifth spots, capturing $56,025 for twelve bottles of 1999 and $52,290 for twelve bottles of 2010, which tied with twelve bottles of 2010 DRC Grands Echezeaux.  La Tache was back again in the seventh and eight positions, as six bottles of 2010 picked up $47,310 and six bottles of 2000 brought in $43,575.  1999 DRC Richebourg earned the ninth spot with six bottles trading at $39,840.  Finally, six bottles of 2012 DRC La Tache and a magnum of 2011 Roumier Musigny wrapped up the Top Ten, each collecting $37,350 with the Roumier setting a New World Record.  Diving deeper in to the Top 25 Lots, other producers and regions were represented, including Petrus, Masseto, Chave, Salon, Keller, Comte Liger-Belair, Leroy, Coche-Dury, J.F. Mugnier, and Dujac.

One hundred and ninety New World Records were set during the two-day sale, with white wines particularly in demand.  Coche-Dury attained twenty-three all-time highs, Leflaive thirteen, Roulot six, Arnaud Ente and Raveneau five each, and the German producer Keller captured seven New World Records.  Notable red wine world records were set by bottles of 2007 Chave Hermitage, 2000 Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin Clos St. Jacques, 1999 Dujac Clos de la Roche, 2008 Bizot Echezeaux, a jeroboam of 1999 DRC Grand Echezeaux, and an imperial of 1982 Figeac, to name a few.

“This past auction was a classic kickoff to what will be an exciting Fall season!  After the Summer hiatus, it was great to see so many bidders participating from all corners of the globe.  The market shows no sign of slowing down, and we already have three more sales lined up for the end of September and October,” commented Acker Chairman John Kapon. “There’s a lot of tasty things brewing on the horizon, including another offering of highly sought-after wines from the collection of John Tilson, a single-cellar sale end of October, and a sizzling first Fall auction in Hong Kong.  Auction season is officially open!”

Acker’s auction season continues in Hong Kong on Wednesday and Thursday, September 28th and 29th and in Delaware Thursday, October 13th, with a special Hong Kong spirits sale scheduled for Saturday, October 29th.  Acker is currently accepting wines for November auctions, with spirits auctions closing monthly and weekly web auctions closing each week.  For more information, email info@ackerwines.com
