"April Showers"
THURSDAY APRIL 8TH | 6:00PM ET
& FRIDAY APRIL 9TH | 5:00PM ET
"LIVE ONLINE"
There’s plenty of sunshine for wine with nearly $6 more Million in store of the world’s finest and rarest wines in Delaware on April 8th and 9th! There are three electric and extra-special offerings that are sure to brighten up these somber Spring skies, so let’s get to some vinous sunshine! Thunder rolls every time we include the Amazing Cellar of Wilf Jaeger in these pages, and this occasion is no different as we bring you an amazing selection for sampling in Lots 1-153. Wilf, like many wine lovers, was a prolific patron of many revered restaurants over the years, but unfortunately, the current climate has forced the closure of many great restaurants, and the wines from this consignment represent one of them, and he now offers us all a Burgundy primer on some cutting-edge producers, including four decades of DRC! The sky through April looms large, and few collectors are in charge more than Mr. Big, who brings us a bevy of bankable Burgundy and beyond in Lots 380-509. Mr. Big’s bounty is heavy with goods, featuring exceptional selections of Dujac and Pierre-Yves Colin Morey. The final feature in this stormy sale offers a lesson on “The Principle of Terroir” in Lots 891-1076. This collector is a long-time, real estate investor, and he’s made alternative investments in a different kind of real estate—the best terroirs of Burgundy! We commence auspiciously with a dozen lots of Armand Rousseau, before new sensation Cecile Tremblay struts her stuff. The noble Comte Liger-Belair bursts through, followed by Fourrier’s fury and ravishing Roumier! Hudelot-Noellat’s grand crus duke it out until Drouhin and Mugneret-Gibourg muscle through. Get your galoshes on and run for your raincoat because it will pour fine and rare wine “live online” in Delaware on April 8th and 9th!
The Amazing Cellar of Wilf Jaeger
Thunder rolls every time we include the Amazing Cellar of Wilf Jaeger, and this occasion is no different as we bring you an amazing selection for sampling in Lots 1-153. Wilf Jaeger is well-known to major collectors worldwide, as his wines have been tasted and recorded in numerous articles and books including Decanter, Vintage Wine, and my own. Wilf is extremely diligent about provenance and ensuring his wine is treated perfectly at all times. Wilf, like many wine lovers, was a prolific patron of many revered restaurants over the years, and even invested his resources and wine in these meccas of fine wine and haute cuisine. Unfortunately, the current climate has forced the closure of many great restaurants, and the wines from this consignment represent one of them. As you can see by scanning these lots, Wilf imparted his own personal style, exploring the depth and diversity of Burgundy, and he now offers us all a Burgundy primer on some cutting-edge producers!!!
While a bit of Bordeaux begins with standouts like 1959 Latour, Domaine de la Romanee Conti then takes charge, with thirty lots covering four decades! The Cote d’Or old guard then battens down the hatches for a cascade of de Montille, Dujac, Rouget and Vogue. Stay alert in this Burgundian storm as mixed lots lie in wait from the likes of Hubert Lignier, Hudelot-Noellat, Drouhin, and many more— I predict some superlative instant tastings and wine dinners in this mix! White Burgundy beckons towards sun and warmth with choice lots of Fontaine-Gagnard, J.M. Pillot, Ramonet, and friends before Pierre-Yves Colin Morey comes through with an assortment of his over-achieving premier crus in mini-vertical mixes. Seek out single bottles of DRC Montrachet and Raveneau Les Clos, before a sun shower over the Rhone Valley occurs, with sightings of Rayas, Guigal La Las, and more. A little mix of Champagne, California, Riesling, and Port clear the skies for what is always a stunning performance from the always Amazing Collection of Wilf Jaeger- an amazing opportunity to stock your cellars with the best!

Bankable Burgundy from Mr. Big
While 1982 Mouton and 1983 Petrus start the party, the storm starts brewing quickly as Rousseau, La Romanee, La Tache, and Leroy take over. Dujac is the shining star of this collection with twenty lots that include a vertical of Chambertin, in bottle and magnum, spanning 2006 to 2016. The fury of Fourrier then comes through with Clos St. Jacques and Griottes Chambertin, before Roumier redoubles these efforts with six bottles each of Les Amoureuses and Musigny!
Seek refuge from the storm with Henri Jayer and Mugnier before twenty lots of Ponsot promise the chance of sunnier days. Here comes the sunshine, in the form of White Burgundy, which shimmers as 1996 Leflaive parts the clouds for Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, including several vintages of his rarest grand crus, Ramonet’s magical Montrachet, and riveting Roulot Meursaults. To celebrate, we wash it all down with 1978 La Chapelle, 1990 Krug in bottle and magnum. Despite all the superlatives that might swirl in his head as easily as a wine in its glass, Mr. Big is also one of the kindest, most generous and humble people I know. We are very grateful to call him our friend. Welcome to the Mr. Big-time!

The Principle of Terroir feat. DRC, Rousseau, Dujac & Comte Liger-Belair & More
The final feature in this stormy sale offers a lesson on “The Principle of Terroir” in Lots 891-1076. This collector is a long-time, real estate investor, and he’s made alternative investments in a different kind of real estate—the best terroirs of Burgundy! There are no greater location, location, locations to be found in the world than the terroirs of Burgundy. All of these wines have been purchased on release! The stars have all aligned for this phenomenal selection that comes to us as a result of a fair bit of cellar thinning. We commence auspiciously with a dozen lots of Armand Rousseau, with full cases of 2009, 2010, and 2013 Chambertin, as well as 2009 and 2012 Clos St. Jacques! New sensation Cecile Tremblay struts her stuff from her Chapelle Chambertin and Echezeaux straight through to a stunning selection of premier crus from throughout the Cote de Nuits. The noble Comte Liger-Belair bursts through with nine regal lots of La Romanee from 2008 to 2015, in addition to his exceptional Echezeaux and Reignots!
There’s a bit of Bachelet to bask in before DRC delivers its big bolt of lightning, thundering down over three dozen lots from The Domaine, including three six-packs of 2016 La Tache and two vintages of Romanee Conti!!! Dujac delivers deliciousness with full cases of newly released Clos St. Denis and Clos de la Roche, followed by Fourrier’s fury and ravishing Roumier with three vintages of their Bonnes Mares! Hudelot-Noellat’s grand crus duke it out until Drouhin and Mugneret-Gibourg muscle through. This is a tremendous principal investment that banks on the principle of terroir in Burgundy. A great lesson, indeed!!!
